After the disappointment of Eisenhower's relatively liberal presidency, conservatives expected JFK's tenure to be even worse. The film must have been produced by -or coordinated with- General Edwin Walker. General Walker was a right-wing general who made controversial statements during his various commandsduringthe 1950s. When Walker decided to resign, National Review responded with an article clearly articulating its belief not only in Walker as an individual but also in what his predicament should represent. Signs that America was falling behind in the arms race or its inability to prepare its fighting men to face the communists should be taken seriously, they said, and the Walker case not only depicted such a breakdown in the training program, it demonstrated literally what would happen if certain political forces had their way with military policy.
