Dinokeng Region

Dinokeng is a tourism destination in north-eastern Gauteng which is rich in natural, cultural and historical heritage sites. The word “Dinokeng” is SeTswana for “a place of rivers” and the major rivers in the area include the Elands River and the Moretele or Pienaar’s River.

Dinokeng’s four major tourist hubs are:

 

1. The historic town of Cullinan, where the world’s largest rough gem-quality diamond was discovered in 1905.

2. The Roodeplaat Dam, a popular water sports centre for rowing, canoeing, sailing and motorboats. It is also a popular fishing destination.

3. Dinokeng Central is an area in close proximity to central Tshwane which provides opportunities for cyclists, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy a rural ambiance.

4. Dinokeng Game Reserve, Gauteng’s only free-roaming Big Five game reserve, which is malaria-free.
