In our world, you dont only learn but you live diversity and inclusion. All of these choices provide life lessons to ourselves while helping to provide a great TKE experience for our fellow Fraters. I ask you on this Founders Day to reflect on your TKE experience and financially invest in the Fraternity that has taken us on such a wonderful ride. As the new year kicks off, our Fraternity is poised to capitalize on strategic growth opportunities that stem from our recent policy changes and internal accountability. We are not yet done. It was the year that Ed Reynolds became the first full-time black student to enroll at Wake Forest. As responsible Fraters, we know we must constantly strive for excellence in our daily actions and demand the same from our fellow Fraters. o Can we imagine student apartments, along with a coffeehouse, a convenience store, a dry cleaners, or other desirable commercial services, to serve the campus of the future well? Be progressive forward looking As a volunteer for the past 20 years, I have come to more fully understand how TKE honors the uniqueness of each Frater, the basis of our brotherhood. Over the next several days, I found my first Teke family with Nathan White, Wes Newton, Mikey Kriese, Robert Luby, Kevin Major, and Walt Moody - my fellow candidates in the Rho-Omega chapter that fall of 1998 and all of whom would later become the newest Fraters of our chapter. This remains our call to action. As a young chapter Prytanis attending the festivities in Boston, I remember hearing those words and feeling a tremendous honor to be a part of TKEs second century. It is your faith and believe in our company that has helped us achieve so much in such a short time. From modest beginnings, we have solidified our place as a Doctoral University with Higher Research Activity, as designated by the current Carnegie Classification. Building off of improved transportation in the Baltimore-Washington corridor? We have just welcomed 2,800 new students to campus this fall, including 1,550 new freshmen. My point is that Wake Forest is a place where many things have begun, where the act of founding is continuous. We can better understand UMBCs growth over the past half-century if we consider the national context in which our campus was founded and subsequently grew. Through an $18 million BUILD grant from the National Institutes of Health, we are extending best practices from our scholar programs to the entire student population. This takes a lot of courage, but humans are more alike than we are unalike.. o Our faculty across disciplines have won a range of impressive awards. It was the first day of classes for those students and faculty. Moreover, we had a special place in this expansion. Our membership is strong, our staff is top notch, and our volunteers give their heart and soul for the betterment of others. What better place can an undergraduate Frater learn lifes lessons than in our fraternity? Each Fraters journey to Tau Kappa Epsilon is individualized but often rooted in finding a community. This remains true today, but innovation and accountability will determine how successful we can be moving forward.
